UK DS owners get wi-fi playground
|
Nintendo's free wi-fi gaming service launches in the UK on 25 November. Intended for owners of the Nintendo DS handheld the service can be used via wireless access points in the home or in 7,500 locations around the UK.
Participating locations include McDonalds fast food outlets, Coffee Republic cafes, Road Chef service stations and even the British Library.
The wireless gaming service has been set up with wi-fi operators BT Openzone and The Cloud. |

Film file-sharer sent to prison
|
A Hong Kong man has been jailed for three months for film piracy after he shared movie files over the internet. The authorities say he is the first person in the world to be prosecuted for passing on files using a popular file-sharing program called BitTorrent.
It makes the sharing of material easy by breaking a file up into fragments and then distributing them.
The film industry says it hopes the sentence handed down to Chan Nai-ming will prove a deterrent to others. |

Firefox fanbase reaches new high
|
More than 10% of net users are going online with the Firefox browser, show figures from analysis firm One Stat. The global average of 11.5% is the highest percentage of users that the open source browser has ever reached.
The research also reveals that Americans are the biggest fans of Firefox with 14.1% using it. In the UK 4.9% use it to get around online.
Despite the success, Microsoft's Internet Explorer still dominates the net with an 85.5% market share.

GTA: San Andreas toasts success

The best-selling Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas has swept the board at a major games awards ceremony in London.
The crime spree title scooped five of the 19 prizes on offer at the Golden Joystick Awards, taking the Ultimate Game of the Year honour.

Nero 7 now available for download
|
Nero 7 Premium is finally available online. Nero released trial versions of its new multimedia software platform. The downloadable files are fully-functional until their expiry date.
Apart from the trial version, Nero offers updates for already installed Nero 7 versions. Download the update v7.0.1.2 here (100 MB approx).
The boxed version can be ordered and downloaded online.
